GrandWest has partnered with Now Build Relationships to give 950 learners from Nerina Primary School in Bonteheuwel school uniforms, backpacks and stationery to the value of R600 000.

Now Build Relationship’s mission is to uplift disadvantaged communities by supporting young learners. They do this by supplying children with the basic school uniforms, and quality school bags and stationery that will last them at least a few years.

The donation to Nerina Primary School consisted of stationery packs, school bags, school shoes, school shirts, pants, skirts and socks for boys and girls.

GrandWest’s Chefs that Care prepared lunch for the learners and guests at the handover event, which took place on Thursday 12 March 2020. GrandWest’s food and beverage team started Chefs that Care in an attempt to use their skills and passion to positively impact the lives of those less fortunate. They prepare a meal for people in the surrounding communities every month. At the handover, Chefs that Care made delicious, homemade chicken-a-la king and rice for the learners and cold meats with dips and savoury snacks for the adults. GrandWest also provided a magician to entertain the learners.

“We are delighted to work with Now Building Relationships to assist learners from this community,” says Genevieve Smith, Sustainability Manager at GrandWest. “Having a proper school uniform, with a school bag and stationery goes a long way to making children feel confident and calm at school, which ultimately allows them to learn better,” she says. “We wish these primary school children the best of luck for their school years and hope the handover was a memorable experience for them.”
