Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the future of South Africa’s children, with its sponsorship of two new vehicles for organisations in KwaZulu Natal and Gansbaai.
On Thursday 19 September, the company handed over a 10-seater T6 Transporter Crewbus to Clouds of Hope, an organisation that focuses on HIV/AIDS awareness training and operates an orphanage in the villages of Himeville and Underberg, KwaZulu Natal. Clouds of Hope was started in 2002 and currently provides a home for 64 children in its orphanage.
A Volkswagen Polo sedan was also handed over to the Grootbos Foundation, a Gansbaai-based organisation established in 2003 with the goal of conserving the environment and developing sustainable projects in ecotourism, sports development and education. Both of these organisations form part of the Be Your Own Hero Foundation founded in Wolfsburg in Germany, where Volkswagen AG is headquartered.
The two vehicles will be used to support the organisations in its campaigns and programmes and will assist with the transport of beneficiaries and staff. These vehicles were handed over at an event attended by Klaus Mohrs, Mayor of Wolfsburg.
At the handover event, Mohrs thanked VWSA for contributing to the sustainable growth of the two organisations and their outreach in the community. “We had the opportunity to witness how much this support means for the children and the people involved,” said Mohrs. “Mobility is a basic requirement for the community to access the programmes offered. We are very grateful for this support from VWSA and very proud of the engagement between the organisation and the people of Wolfsburg.”
VWSA has supported Clouds of Hope in the past, joining with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Headquarters in Hanover in 2011 to sponsor a Transporter Crewbus for the organisation.
“The work done by both these organisations is close to our hearts at VWSA, as it aligns closely with some of our corporate social initiatives’ key focus areas,” said Thomas Schaefer, Volkswagen Group South Africa Chairman and Managing Director. “It is our hope that these new vehicles will prove invaluable in protecting and uplifting the children and families that benefit from their tireless efforts.
“As VWSA we are proud to play our part in their journey to better lives in their respective communities, and we hope to continue making a difference in these lives,” concluded Schaefer.
