Their show takes place on 18 January 2020 at Winners Sports Bar at 21h00. Entrance is free but seats are limited so guests are urged to arrive early.
“We remain true to our promise to give local performers platform to showcase their talents. We look forward to hosting Sammy Webber and Lesley-Rae on our stage. Join us for an evening of cool classics by this talented duo,” says Keenan Bergins, General Manager Golden Valley Casino.
Born into a poor family, Sammy’s father died when he was 18 months old. His mother had the arduous task of raising five children on her own and she never remarried. From an early age he had a love for music, taking the pots and pans and pretending to play drums on them. He only managed to get his hands on a real musical instrument at the age of 18. His first instrument was the rhythm guitar. He later learned to play the bass which became his first love. Sammy has been an established musician in the music industry and his musical career spans over 33 years.
Lesley-Rae is the second eldest of four children. With a really strict and religious background, she only started singing and playing the piano in the church band in her late teens. After school, she took a gap year in the United States. She came home eight months later and completed a course in sound engineering. She later studied music performance but left the music industry to work at a publishing house. It was in 2015 that she decided to pursue music fulltime. Sammy and Lesley-Rae started dating in 2008 but never performed together. They got married in April 2013 and have been performing as a duo ever since. A sequencer is used, Sammy plays the bass and sings and Lesley-Rae joins in on the vocals. Although only two years old, this duo has performed at several venues and has played some intimate little gigs for international stars such as, CeCe Peniston, Robin S and Sybil when they were in Cape Town.
